The FACADE series is an ever growing collection of urban landscapes, building facades precisely framed to capture a true sense of place. FACADE explores neglected and overlooked areas of our cities, finding beauty in places most often ignored. Exploration began in Phoenix Arizona in 2011 and is ongoing.
These buildings have a history to share, they tell stories of past lives beneath layers of paint. They have a quiet dignity, even in decay. Many of these places still exist today, untouched, while others have been painted, restored, or otherwise redeveloped. Some have even disappeared entirely, victims of progress. Our cities are ever changing, FACADE is a window into one small moment in time.
Christopher Marks is a fine art photographer who grew up in Central Ohio and has been living in Uptown Phoenix since 2006. He can often be found wandering the streets with his trusty Fujifilm X100. When not out taking photographs, Christopher enjoys hiking in the desert, riding bikes, extreme cold brew caffeination, brutally bitter west coast IPAs, and spending time with his wonderful girlfriend and adorable pooch. Christopher's other works include the Rail Yard series.
The FACADE series utilizes a unique printing process, each photograph is reproduced directly on birch plywood with everlasting UV-cured inks. The natural beauty of birch wood grain imbues each photograph with warmth and character, creating a unique vintage patina. All pieces in the FACADE series are signed, numbered, and limited to an edition of 25 prints. Due to the inherent characteristics of natural wood, no two prints will ever be exactly alike.
